Tribological properties of surface-modified Pd nanoparticles for electrical contacts

► Easy-to-prepare Pd NPs provide outstanding anti-wear and load-bearing capabilities. ► Complete study of different tribological parameters controlling the Pd NPs behavior. ► Pd NP contents of 2-4 wt% maintain friction <0.1 reducing counterface wear rates. ► Pd NPs dropped onto the contact work as a solid lubricant in reciprocating motion. ► A Pd tribolayer in the contact enables a low electrical resistance during motion.
