► Any typical wear process is composed of three stages: Input, Intermediate, Output. ► Graphical (G) and formula (F) methods were used to calculate unknown wear data. ► Least square method was used for optimal curve fitting in both (G) and (F) methods. ► Specific wear volume is a stronger criterion than specific wear rate.
