Climate-Aware Generation Planning: A Case Study of the Tamil Nadu Power System in India

The inherent unpredictability and high seasonality of wind and solar resources need to be factored into generation planning to develop a “climate-aware” generation plan that gets the balance right among different generation and import options. Both current and projected generation capacity mix in some parts of India do not reflect a good balance, with significant cost and reliability implications.
