A GIS based assessment of bioenergy potential in England within existing energy systems

► We use spatial data on potential supply and demand to predict bioenergy potential. ► Calculations for England indicate theoretical potential of 383 PJ from bioenergy. ► This would be less detrimental to food production than 27 PJ of wheat bioethanol. ► Feedstock end use significantly affects predicted total bioenergy generation. ► Socioeconomic obstacles may limit realisation of biomass generation potential.
