The processing response of magnesium alloy WE43 to hot working was studied by conducting hot compression test at five different temperatures and strain rates. Using this data, a Strain Rate Sensitivity (SRS) map was developed to have basic idea about hot working regime of this alloy. The results from the SRS map were implemented to obtain the parameters for rolling of the alloy. Based on the input from the SRS map, the alloy samples were rolled at 350°C and 400°C. Various characterization techniques such as optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Electron Back Scattered Diffraction (EBSD) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) were employed to characterize the samples. The solutionized alloy was also subjected to Multi Axial Forging (MAF) to examine the possibility grain refinement. The crystallographic texture of so-obtained material was also studied.
