A new method for the study of two-phase flow patterns based on the chaotic characteristic method of image fields

► The video of gas-liquid two phase flow patterns in a horizontal pipe is obtained. ► The maximum gray distance values' series is obtained by the block of the video. ► The largest Lyapunov index of each series is calculated, the matrix is formatted. ► The 0,1-distributed plot and the contour-distributed plot are obtained. ► The fractal box dimension and the Shannon entropy are obtained for a further analysis.
