Despiking velocity time-series-Optimisation through the combination of spike detection and replacement methods

► Despiking methods were applied to ADV data from laboratory and field experiments. ► Combinations of detection and replacement method were examined. ► Choice of replacement method significantly affects power spectrum reconstruction. ► With one exception, turbulence intensity is accurately reconstructed by all methods. ► Standard deviation is shown to be the preferred characteristic for spike detection.
