River surface target enhancement and background suppression for unseeded LSPIV

► Target characteristics of natural floating objects are analyzed. ► The optical environment of river surface is studied. ► An NIR smart camera is developed as a useful and efficient instrument for LSPIV. ► NIR imaging can enhance the target and improve the PSNR of correlation plane. ► SHPF can suppress the river background and increase the percentage of correct vectors.
