The reduction of climate relevant gases such as carbon dioxide constitutes a major target of local policies of various cities within the European Union. In Germany numerous cities seek for a significant reduction of emissions until 2050. Traffic and transport account for approximately 30 percent of total emissions. In this respect exists a considerable potential by deployment of electric bus vehicles to contribute to a substantial reduction of energy consumption and tailpipe emissions in the domain of public transit. The gradual replacement of fossil fuelled vehicle fleet by electrically driven buses requires to estimate effects on emission rates within the transit system and total reduction potentials for a regional deployment. To estimate emission reductions internal emission models of Transportation Analysis and Simulation System (TRANSIMS) have been calibrated and applied to conditions of the modeled urban network and bus vehicle emission rates.
