Propagation function for accurate initialization and efficiency enhancement of digital image correlation

► Propagation function is defined to explicitly relate adjacent deformation parameters. ► Closed-form expression is derived for first-order and second-order shape function. ► Local deformation and strain are taken into account. ► More accurate initialization is provided for DIC than existing methods. ► Fewer iterations are required for iterative algorithm to converge in optimization.
