PtxNi/C nanostructured composites fabricated by chemical reduction and their application in non-enzymatic glucose sensors

Platinum-cobalt PtxNi alloy nanoparticles have been successfully fabricated by the chemical reduction method, using carbon (Vulcan XC-72) as support. The resulting modified glassy carbon electrode shows excellent catalytic activity for the oxidation of glucose. Under physiological conditions, the oxidation current of glucose has two specific linear ranges of 2.0 − 420 μM and 0.5-8.5 mM, with high sensitivities of 1795.1 μA mM−1 cm−2 and 707.72 μA mM−1 cm−2, respectively. In addition, interference from the oxidation of ascorbic acid, uric acid, or acetamidophenol could be effectively avoided. The non-enzymatic glucose sensors based on this electrode exhibited excellent selectivity, stability, and repeatability. Thus, this novel non-enzyme sensor has potential application in glucose detection.
