This study presents a numerical investigation of the entropy generation of a turbulent plane jet with variable density. Turbulent simulations are carried out using the first order k-ε turbulence model. The Finite Volume Method (FVM) is used to discretize governing equations. The effect of the jet temperature at the inlet nozzle on the flow and mainly on the entropy generation has been studied. So far, a comparison of numerical and experimental results gives a satisfactory agreement. The present investigation suggests that high value of entropy generation correspond to the higher inlet hot jet temperature. Moreover, the viscous dissipation is found to be important near the nozzle exit and it becomes negligible in the affinity region of the jet. Furthermore, the entropy generation rate as well as the Merit number grows progressively to reach an asymptotic value along the flow direction as the inlet jet temperature increases.
