Simulation of doubly periodic shear layers using Kinetically Reduced Local Navier-Stokes equations on a GPU

Kinetically Reduced Local Navier-Stokes (KRLNS) equations are applied for two-dimensional (2-D) simulation of doubly periodic shear layers in order to demonstrate the accuracy, efficiency and the capability to capture the correct transient behavior. The numerical results obtained by the KRLNS equations are compared with those obtained by the artificial compressibility method (ACM) and the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The velocity divergence as a function of time in the KRLNS method is compared with that of the ACM. Parallel computations are carried out on a GPU by using the CUDA library provided by the NVIDIA.
