Extraction of coherent vortices from homogeneous turbulence using curvelets and total variation filtering methods

► Vortices of homogeneous turbulence are extracted by the curvelets and TV methods. ► Curvelet filtering is done using frequency analysis. ► Total variation (TV) filtering is done in the spatial domain. ► The results are similar to the results of coherent vortex extraction method. ► The coherent and incoherent flows are multiscale.
