J-CTOD relations in clamped SE(T) fracture specimens including 3-D stationary and growth analysis

This work provides improved relationships between J and CTOD for clamped SE(T) specimens based upon extensive 3-D computations conducted for crack configurations with varying crack sizes and material properties incorporating stationary and crack growth analysis. A computational cell model for crack extension in ductile materials is utilized to describe the evolution of J and CTOD with increased loading. Laboratory testing of an API X70 steel provides the crack growth resistance curves for the material from which the cell parameters are calibrated. The study enables establishing accurate relationships between J and CTOD for use in testing protocols for toughness measurements.
