Bifurcation of limit cycles in fluid film bearings

► Self-excited vibration of short journal rotor-bearing system near the stability threshold journal speed has been investigated. ► Continuation of the limit cycles and the detection of their bifurcations have been carried out using the software package MATCONT. ► Numerical integration of the system of equations is used to support the results obtained by numerical continuation.
