Energy Challenges for a Nickel Laterite Mining and Smelting Facility

This paper presents the findings of an energy survey, conducted at Vale's major nickel production facility in Indonesia. The survey results facilitated our understanding of how various forms of energy were used at this location and their relative impacts on production cost and carbon footprint. Furthermore, based on this survey, the authors have also identified and ranked the opportunities for energy reduction.
