Alternating current-gas metal arc welding for application to thick plates

- Application of AC-GMAW for thick plate welding was proposed.
- Finger-like penetration occurred at high EN ratio and welding current above 200 A.
- Lack of fusion on joint sides was observed for 10 mm thick plates.
- Arc-interruptions from magnetic fields were overcome by using AC-GMAW.
