The mathematical modeling and thermal comfort-based Model Predictive Control (MPC) of a wooden house air handling unit are discussed. The first principles mathematical modeling is implemented with subsequent approximation of the results obtained from its numerical solution. It is accepted that the state of the air inside the premises could be presented as a combination of “fast” and “slow” interconnected dynamic components. Corresponding two mathematical models are derived and used in two separate control subsystems. A coordination supervisory control level is proposed in order to satisfy both requirements of thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Simulation results are presented for internal and external disturbances.
