Strain-controlled fatigue properties of dissimilar welded joints between Ti-6Al-4V and Ti17 alloys

► A distinctive asymmetrical hardness profile across the dissimilar joint is observed. ► While HAZ-softening takes place on the Ti17 side, it is absent on the Ti-6Al-4V side. ► Monotonic and cyclic yield strengths of joints lie in-between those of base metals. ► Dissimilar joints exhibit cyclic stabilization at strain amplitudes up to 0.6%. ► Base metals and joints show symmetrical hysteresis loops and equivalent fatigue life.
