MODELLING OF RATE GYROSCOPES WITH CONSIDERATION OF FAULTS

This paper deals with fault analysis of a rate gyroscope. A parametric model capable of representing common faults is presented first. The fault patterns considered include: bias, random drift, systematic drift, degradation in accuracy, gain degradation, and floating. The numerical simulations are conducted to classify these fault patterns, as well as to determine the root causes behind the observed patterns. The study is carried out with engineering details and practical applications of rate gyroscopes in mind. The results are of significant value to achieve fault-tolerance in flight control systems.
