The purpose of this paper is to present the main interactions promoted by the exercise in a type 1 diabetic mellitus patient. These dynamics are synthesized into mathematical equations to describe them analytically. It is intended to extend the ability of the compartmental model introduced by Sorensen (1985) to reproduce the variations in the blood glucose induced by the exercise. Solely the short-term consequences of exercise are incorporated in this work. The hepatic glycogen reservoir limits the peripheral glucose uptake for prolonged exercise. Therefore, the depletion and replenishment of the hepatic glycogen are modelled, looking to reproduce the blood glucose levels for a diabetic patient in a normal day, with three-meals, insulin infusions and an exercise regime.
