AN INTEGRATED CONCEPT FOR TEACHING PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS

Teaching process control systems is a challenging task due to the complexity of the system itself, the interdependence of plant and control functions and the advanced technology built into the system. The paper presents a teaching approach integrating a conventional lecture with activating teaching components like embedded mini projects, hands-on laboratory projects and industry visits. By the combination of these teaching element students collect actively knowledge about the functions of various process control systems, learn by doing how to set-up such systems and get a realistic picture of large scale process control systems used for industrial plants.
