• We proposed the model to determine of the resistivity of thin antistatic coatings.
• The model is based on a hybrid of four-points method and the method of images.
• Influence of the background layer on value of the resistance is examined.
• The model can be simplified, if background layer is very good conductors or isolators.
In the paper, a mathematic model for determination of the resistivity of thin antistatic coatings is presented. The model is based on a hybrid of four-points method and the method of images. The parameters of measuring system and coating layer are described in terms of the ratios of characteristic dimensions of the system. Both 2D and 3D cases are taken into considerations. The limiting values for the application of simplified 2D descriptions are derived.
