A gain assisted Double Negative-Metallo-Semiconductor Photonic Crystal (DN-MSPC) for blue light with effect of different plasmonic (Al, Ag, Au, Cu) nanorod inclusions is presented. Effect of different metal nanocomposites and inverted host matrix, on dispersion and transmission properties of the designed DN-MSPC is demonstrated. Negative real values of both permeability (μ) and permittivity (ε) with extremely low imaginary values in the visible region are obtained by applying coupled dipole approximation for different nanocomposites. It is shown that index matching to the incident medium and compensated losses due to the gain assistance lead to the light amplification in the designed structure. A comparison of dispersion properties and left-handed resonance for different plasmonic nanocomposites of a similar shape and geometry shows permittivity-dependent dispersion and resonant properties. Fabrication tolerance with effect of change in plasmonic nanorod radius by ±10% is also analyzed. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the left-handed transmission to index changes of the host material (i.e., refractive index sensitivity) and highest left-handed transmission efficiency (>99%) is also investigated for biosensing application.
► Demonstration of the effect of different metallic nanocomposites on the dispersion and transmission properties of the designed Double negative material.
► All angle negative refraction, index matching and gain assistance is also established.
► Extremely high left handed transmission efficiency is achieved.
► Tolerance analysis and refractive index sensitivity is also investigated.
