A WDM multi-waveguide low blocking architecture for ONoC

Optical Network-on-Chip (ONoC) promises significant bandwidth and power advantages for future on chip interconnection. However, the blocking in circuit-switching ONoC degrades the performance of the network. This paper proposes a new method that combines wavelength allocation with multi-waveguide architecture to reduce the blocking probability of ONoC. Utilizing the characteristic of the limited turns in XY routing algorithm, it employs only eight wavelengths to offer efficient communication for ONoC. We compare the performance of the proposed architecture with the traditional ONoC under various traffic patterns. Simulation results show considerable improvement in end-to-end latency, at least 1.4 times higher throughput and 55.1% lower average blocking probability for different traffic patterns.
