A novel ultraviolet Raman spectroscopic flame diagnostics system is presented. Relative concentrations of O2, N2, CO, CO2, H2, water vapor, unburned fuel and flame temperature for temperatures ranging from 800 to 2500 K at atmospheric pressure are measured. The pulsed vibrational Raman scattering technique for point measurements is used. Coupling of slow spectrometer scan with time-resolved technique enables measurement of anti-Stokes and Stokes Raman spectra of combustion species with minimal background noise. A relatively lower level of incident light energy of about 25 mJ per pulse can be used for Raman scattering excitation. The system has a simple configuration. After non-complicated transformation, it can be used for combustion chamber flame diagnostics.
