When an electro-optical (EO) crystal is used in an intracavity modulation laser, one can find that a slight tilt of the EO crystal could even result in a great influence on the output intensity of the laser. With the theories of light propagation in an EO crystal and the Jones matrix formalism, the above mentioned phenomenon is explained and an optimal configuration of the EO crystal for the intracavity modulation laser is suggested in this paper. To confirm the validity of the theoretical analysis, experiments are also performed. Their results are found to be in good agreement with those of the theoretical prediction.
