Rapid determination of total iodine in Japanese coastal seawater using SF-ICP-MS

►We report a simple and rapid analytical method for total iodine in seawater using SF-ICP-MS. ►Seawater was 100-fold diluted with 0.5% TMAH prior to analysis. ►Low detection limit of 0.23 ng ml− 1 in original seawater was obtained. ►The developed method was applied for the determination of total iodine in Japanese coastal seawaters in 14 estuaries.
