The first molecular paddlewheel platinum(III) acetate complex Pt2(μ-OOCMe)4(O3SMe)2

► [PtIV(OH)6]2− reduced with formic acid to Pt(III) acetate ► Reaction with MeSO3H produced crystalline PtIII2(μ-OOCMe)4(O3SMe)2. ► X-ray diffraction revealed short Pt-Pt distance 2.4059(6) Å. ► DFT analysis gave electron configuration as σ2π4δ2δ*2π*4 with Pt-Pt σ-bonding.
