Hydrothermal synthesis, crystal structure and luminescence of two new 2D coordination polymers [Ln(IN)(CO3)(H2O)] (LnLa, Eu) constructed by interesting flat lanthanide carbonate layers

► Compounds 1 and 2 are two-dimensional lanthanide carbonate frameworks. ► They are constructed by the intergrowth of infinite lanthanide carbonate layers. ► Effective energy transfer from the ligand to the EuIII center for 2 can be found.
