Total synthesis of the trifluoromethylated analog of isoaltholactone: 5-trifluoromethylisoaltholactone

► The design and synthesis of the first fluorine-containing analog of isoaltholactone was accomplished. ► The nucleophilic addition of ketone with CF3SiMe3 was used for the introduction of trifluoromethyl (CF3) group. ► The absolute configuration of the target molecule was confirmed by X-ray analysis.
