Characterization of microsatellite loci in Schizopygopsis chengi chengi and their utilization in assessment of the genetic diversity in Schizopygopsis chengi baoxingensis

► Eleven tetranucleotide microsatellite loci were developed from S. c. chengi and showed highly polymorphism. ► The genetic diversity of S. c. baoxingensis was analyzed using eight microsatellite loci. ► The genetic diversity based on microsatellite loci was differed from the studies based on mtDNA for S. c. baoxingensi. ► The result showed combined analysis of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA was required for the study of genetic diversity.
