Microsatellite polymorphism in Tunisian pomegranates (Punica granatum L.): Cultivar genotyping and identification

► SSR primers revealed 40 alleles and 46 genotypes for 32 Tunisian pomegranate cultivars. ► A high level of polymorphism characterizes the Tunisian pomegranate germplasm. ► Genetic diversity was structured independently of the geographical origin of cultivars. ► A common genetic basis may characterize the Tunisian pomegranate. ► Identification key has been permitted to unambiguously identify and differentiate all the studied cultivars.
