Leaf nitrogen and phosphorus stoichiometry across forty-two woody species in Southeast China

► Significant differences for stoichiometry were found among functional groups. ► SLA showed significance for leaf N concentration in broadleaf trees. ► Interspecies leaf N, N:P ratios showed huge variability within a site. ► 42 coastal trees were classified into different nutritional limitation groups.
