Genetic diversity and differentiation of Sinocalycanthus chinensis populations revealed by chloroplast microsatellite (cpSSRs) markers

► We analysed the genetic diversity and differentiation of the endangered plant Sinocalycanthus chinensis using cpSSR markers. ► Genetic diversity at the population level and species level was low. ► Variation existed mainly among populations rather than within populations. ► Eight populations were clustered into two main groups and there was significant association between genetic and geographical distances.
