Molecular evidence for hybrid origin of Melastoma intermedium

► We tested hybrid origin hypothesis for Melastoma intermedium. ►M. intermedium showed additivity in chromatograms at nuclear genes between its putative parents. ►M. intermedium had identical chloroplast sequences with parental species. ► The hybrid origin was verified and hybridization was bidirectional.
