Genetic variations and expansion of whiskered velvet shrimp (Metapenaeopsis barbata) off China and Taiwan inferred from intron sequence

► We found three Metapenaeopsis barbata populations in the adjacent waters of Taiwan and China. ► The M. barbata in the studied waters experienced population expansion. ► No genealogical structure was found in neighbor-joining tree and network of alleles.
