Sulfonilamidothiopyrimidone and thiopyrimidone derivatives as selective COX-2 inhibitors: Synthesis, biological evaluation, and docking studies

► Successfully evaluated sulfonilamidothiopyrimidone and thiopyrimidone derivatives as COX-2 inhibitors. ► Identified four compounds which show very potent activity and good COX-2 selectivity. ► Docking studies were in agreement with the biological data. ► The observed effects were not due to an inhibition of cell proliferation.
