A new scheme of a mechanism is described in this paper. A follower-cam kinematics pair is used to support the multi-step shaft when machining and automatic control of its dimensions. The cam is carried by a longitudinally moving slider connected to a wide-range transducer. The slider supports the work-piece from the side contrary to a cutting force, while the measuring surfaces of the followers are constantly tangent to the diameter of the work-piece and are connected with narrow range transducers. The sum of transducer signals controls an absolute diameter of the work-piece. Calculation equations are derived to define the dependencies between specific linear dimensions of a mechanism and an inclination angle of the cam profile’s surfaces for the design of the mechanism. Calculation results, kinematics and design schemes are presented in this paper.
