A new method for studying the dynamic response and damage evolution of polymers at high strain rates

Using a new method combined the SHPB technology with the Back-Propagation (BP) neural network program, the dynamic constitutive model of polymers at high strain rates is studied in two cases, i.e. not taking and taking into account the damage evolution. From the comparison of the results for those two cases, it is found that the damage evolution, which accompanies the strain process when the strain exceeds a threshold, plays an important role of weakening effect on the mechanical behavior of polymers. Moreover, the results show that the evolution of damage is dependent on both strain and strain rate.
