Analysis of the energy storage technology using Hype Cycle approach

Energy is the main inputs of products/services. This importance accentuates the increasing need for performing related studies in this area in all countries. One of the most important issues is the area of stable, high-quality and eco-friendly energy. Due to the advantages of using energy storage systems in all environmental, economic, social, and political areas, it can play a significant role in the provision of such stable, high-quality, and eco-friendly energy source. Energy storage systems allow the production and distribution of the electricity to be performed at its highest capacity that leads to reduction of the demand for new production and distribution lines. In order for the company to reach the competitive advantage and to have more portions in the market, it is necessary to have the technology in its life cycle, to assess the process of revolution in energy storage technologies, and to perform accordingly in the direction of the development of strategic plan of the technology. After analyzing the technology life cycle cycles and the technology acceptance cycle, since they do not show the status of the technology accurately, we combined both cycles in order to have a model named Hype Cycle; therefore, the managers could identify the status of the technology accurately and use this model in making decisions in investments etc. Based on Our analysis, chemical hydrogen storage, superconductor, and the battery are in the technology trigger and the concepts of these technologies have been framed recently and anyone does not think about these technologies in business scale. Pumped storage hydropower and superconducting magnetic storage with superconductors are at the level of the trough of disillusionment. It means that the applications and experiences about these technologies are low and are disappearing at scientific and business scales. But the compressed air storage technology has been at the level of realistic expectations and the applications of this technology is clear and different generations of this technology will be formed. Besides, at this stage, many different companies will invest in this field of technology.
