Design and realization of the optical and electron beam alignment system for the HUST-FEL oscillator

A Free Electron Laser(FEL) oscillator with radiation wavelength at 30-100 μm is under commissioning at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). This work presents the schematic design and realization procedures for the optical and beam alignment system in the HUST FEL facility. The optical cavity misalignment effects are analyzed with the code OPC + Genesis 1.3, and the tolerance of misalignment is proposed with the simulation result. Depending on undulator mechanical benchmarks, a laser indicating system has been built up as reference datum. The alignment of both optical axis and beam trajectory were achieved by this alignment system.
