Fabrication and optical characteristics of silicon-based two-dimensional wavelength division multiplexing splitter with photonic crystal directional waveguide couplers

► We report the fabrication and optical properties of rod-type photonic crystal. ► The splitter was fabricated by electron beam lithography and dry-etching techniques. ► The splitter was composed of directional waveguide couplers. ► Measured transmission spectra are in agreement with theoretical calculations. ► The splitters can be used in visible light region.
