Elasticity theory with response function for deformation gradient in terms of stress

A formulation of elasticity theory is presented, for which a response function is taken for the deformation gradient in terms of the stress. The issue of the response function being multi-valued is discussed. The objectivity, the theory of hyperelasticity, internally constrained materials, and material symmetry are studied.
