Interface characterization and formability of two and three-layer composite sheets manufactured by roll bonding
چکیده انگلیسی

Roll bonding is a solid-state welding process to join both similar and dissimilar metals and it is a well-established technique widely used in manufacturing processes. In this paper, the effect of rolling reduction, number of layers and the percentage of different amounts of SiC particles have been studied on the bond strength of the Al/SiCp laminated composites by lap–shear test and Erichsen cupping test. Furthermore, the interface region has been analyzed using micro-hardness test and metallographic observations. Rolling can give good bonds between metallic layers resulting in higher toughness of the product by refining the microstructure. Delamination of the interfaces is the main reason for the high impact and fracture resistance of the multilayer materials as well as increasing the extrinsic toughening by different mechanisms.

► Roll bonding process was conducted on two and three layers composite sheets.
► A bulk homogeneous laminated sheet was produced after hot rolling.
► Effect of reinforcement particle of interface bonding was studied.
► Formability of multilayer sheet and bonding strength were evaluated.
