The first report on some toxic effects of green scat, Scatophagus argus an Iranian Persian Gulf venomous fish

► Scatophagus argus can induce painful wounds with partial paralysis in injured limb to whom that touch its rough spines. ► Edematic effect on mice paw is dose dependent response and is increased during 30 min and reduces gradually over 48 h. ► The crude venom possesses hemolytic activity on human erythrocyte. ► Generation of necrosis is due to the toxic effects of the hemolytic and phospholipase C (PLC) protein existing in the venom.
