Gene expression analysis by ESTs sequencing of the Brazilian frog Phyllomedusa nordestina skin glands

► The skin gland expression profile of a new Brazilian frog species is presented. ► A high level of opioid peptides precursors in Phyllomedusa nordestina than Phyllomedusa hypochodrialis. ► Higher dermorphin transcripts as biochemical marker to discern similar species. ► Several antimicrobial peptides were found. ► First description of a cellular S100 calcium binding proteins in Phyllomedusa genus.
