Existence and nonexistence of global solutions for a class of nonlinear wave equations of higher order

In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Cauchy problem for a class of nonlinear wave equations of higher order and prove the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to this problem by a potential well method.
