This paper has studied the effects of linear and nonlinear diffusion of the competitive Lotka–Volterra model, and has investigated how the linear and nonlinear diffusions lead from the extinction of one species to the persistence or global asymptotic stability of all species. This research has important implications in the design of nature reserves.
